It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes. ~Douglas Adams

My Journals: Borders remnants & a bullet journal

It's not hoarding, it's a collection!

Blank journals are another weakness of mine. Even though I have an entire cabinet full of journals, I can't seem to stop collecting them! Not sure what I'm going to do with them all, but I can't seem to make it out of a bookstore with at least one.

When Borders was having their final sales before closing, I stocked up on blank journals.

Knight's Fall by Angela Henry #BookReview

 photo Knights Fall.jpg
Title:  Knight's Fall
Author:  Angela Henry
Release Date:  August 1, 2015
Publisher:  Boulevard West Press
Source:  Review copy provided by Pump Up Your Book

Xavier Knight was an angel - until Heaven kicked him out. Now he’s a private detective in New Orleans, trying to put his old immortal life behind him while avoiding Lucifer’s bounty hunters.

But when his latest case uncovers a plot to end the world with a supernatural drug, he’ll need all the otherworldly help he can get to stop it.

My Review:

While I've read a book or two with fallen angels, have to say that Knight's Fall is the first where the ex-angel is a PI. In New Orleans, no less! With just those two facts, you know it's going to be a good read!

My Book Haul 1/23/16

My Book Haul | Alexia's Books and Such
In need of a new way to showcase titles, I decided that My Book Haul seems like a good fit. I like giving books a little special attention as sometimes it can be awhile before I'm able to review them. Sad to say, but some get put on the shelf and gather a little dust before I'm able to give them the love they deserve. I've included links to Goodreads if you want more information.

For Review:

I've seen this book around and was curious enough to request an ARC via Amazon Vine. Sounds like an interesting premise, despite the mixed reviews.

Wow, the mini Bloggiesta went by fast! Wasn't able to visit as many of the other participants as I wanted, but did make a small dent.

Pawn's Gambit by Timothy Zahn #BookReview

Pawn's Gambit by Timothy Zahn #BookReviewTitle:  Pawn's Gambit:  And Other Stratagems
Author:  Timothy Zahn
Release Date:  January 5, 2016
Publisher:  Open Road Media
Source:  review copy provided via NetGalley

The pieces included in Pawn’s Gambit range from the adventure science fiction Timothy Zahn is famous for to post-apocalyptic tales and humorous fantasy.  This collection also includes the Hugo Award–winning novella Cascade Point and eight stories previously unpublished in book form.(Goodreads)

My Review:

The first story in a collection usually sets the tone for the entire anthology, so a little sad that I didn't care for The Price of Survival. It was a little too science fiction-y for my tastes. Thankfully, the rest of the collection was more to my liking!

Mini Bloggiesta Winter 2016

Mini Bloggiesta Winter 2016
It's time for another Bloggiesta! I'm trying to dig myself out of another blogging rut, so hoping this will give me a nice kickstart.

What is Bloggiesta?

Bloggiesta is a blogging marathon revolving around ticking off those items on your to-do list and improving your blog while in the good company of other awesome bloggers doing the same thing. Our awesome mascot Pedro (Plan. Edit. Develop. Review. Organize) is ready to break out the nachos, enchiladas, drinks, mariachi music and whack a pinata or two! It’s nothing short of an awesome fiesta! (website)

Bookmark Monday: Hero or Villain?

Which will you be today?
Really love this wooden bookmark that I received as part of a Secret Santa gift! It's nice & solid, plus has an awesome question!

We are the hero, damsel in distress, & villain of our own stories.
Which one will you be today?

I try to be the hero, am sometimes the villain, but will do anything to avoid being the damsel in distress! How about you?

My Book Haul 1/9/2016

My Book Haul 1/9/2016 | Alexia's Books and Such

In need of a new way to showcase titles, I decided that My Book Haul seems like a good fit. Sad to say, but some get put on the shelf and gather a little dust before I'm able to give them the love they deserve. I've included links to Goodreads if you want more information.

For Review:

Saw this one on Amazon Vine and it sounded too good to resist! It's an older title so a little surprised to see that ARCs were still available, but looking forward to reading this debut!

Secret Santa Exchange Goodies

Secret Santa exchanges are one of my favorite Christmas activities, as there's just something wonderfully fun about shopping for a fellow book lover! I took part in two bookish exchanges this past holiday, and wanted to share what I received.

The Broke & the Bookish Secret Santa
The exchange hosted by The Broke & the Bookish is one of my favorites! Can you believe it's been six years already? Wow!

The Broke & the Bookish Secret Santa
I was good and actually waited until Christmas morning to open my goodies!

New challenges for the coming year

Even though I didn't do very well with my reading challenges last year, couldn't resist signing up for some new challenges for 2016. Have signed up for four so far, and fingers crossed I don't give in to temptation and sign up for even more!

Blogger Shame Challenge
The Blogger Shame Challenge seems to have been made for me, as my TBR piles are totally out of control! I feel bad for ignoring so many review books and really hoping that the shame will be enough to motivate me to catch up! You can see my original sign up post for more details.
